Project Share Day 1: where it all began
I’m in a leadership course and my friend Kim Gross issued a challenge. A 30-day sharing challenge and I except. And actually I posted 40 days. I hope you enjoy them and feel free to comment on what’s coming up for you when you read them.
Today post #1:
My very first memory as a human being was when I was 3 years old. Three years 2 months and maybe 20 days. I can vividly see myself standing in the front on a New York City bus. Each of my hands are being held by Grandma Ida and Poppi. They’re so tall, staring down at me. The bus is loud and people are all around me. I feel the movement and vibration under my feet. It’s magical. The year is 1978. And I look up at my grandparents with a huge smile on my face, happy, content, and free. We are on our way to visit my Mom in the hospital who had just given birth to my baby brother. He’s precious, like a doll and everyone is happy.
The next time I’m in a hospital, it’s not as happy. Poppi just had a stroke. It’s 1980. And I remember being in the hospital with all of my cousins on this black leather couch (there’s pictures floating around of us on this plush oversized couch). I noticed how sad the adults were; how busy and absent. It was strange to a 5-year-old. I didn’t understand the concept of what was happening; I was happy to be with all my cousins as the 5 of us were in the same place.
I was very close to my Grandma Ida and to Poppi. I was definitely a character to my grandfather and he loved me so much. I miss them every day.
