If you are following me on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/ASimplifiedLife) you know that a few weeks ago I hired a wardrobe stylist to help me clean out my closet. This was something that I have always wanted to do. I knew that I had to update my clothes and the items in my closet, but I wasn’t sure what to focus on and how to really get started. Even Professional Organizers need assistance sometimes.

We booked a 3-hour session for 1p on a Friday. Elsa came to my apartment and we started by taking clothes out of the closet and for me to try them on. I would look in the mirror and she would point out the cut and style and if it worked for my body type. Then, it was lightning speed to get all the clothes out of the closet and sorted into 4 piles: Donation, Consignment, Trash, and Alterations.

I’m pretty good at the sorting process, but I wasn’t sure of the style and if the outfit worked for my body type. It’s always nice to have a second opinion when cleaning out a closet. I do suggest that if you were to have a “Closet Cleanout” for yourself, you should invite a friend over to help with the process. It makes the time move fast and you’re not at stressed by the process.

Once Elsa left, I continued with clothes in my dresser drawers and onto my shoes! I will admit that although my shoes are organized and I have enough room for them, I had WAY TOO many shoes; I had uncomfortable shoes, and shoes that went out of style in 2001.

I now have room for our next sessions, which will include a trip to a department store to look for signature pieces that I will be able to incorporate into my new style (look), and a session at my apartment to help me put all the looks together (including matching shoes to the outfit). I am very excited for this process and learning more about design and style, and what will look best on my body.

Through this process I donated 10 bags of clothes and shoes (my photo only reflects half of the progress). I felt relieved and also glad that I might be able to help someone else obtain clothes that might work well for their body type.  I do believe that if we need help (in a area of our lives), that it’s best to find the right person to help, and to find a specialist in that area. Oftentimes we try to do everything ourselves and for me, I am realizing that it’s ok to ask for help.

Is there an area that you need help in?

I would love to hear more from you.
